On Sunday Ceduna golfers contested the quarter finals of the club championships, with the winners advancing through to the semi finals,
In The A Grade, the first match saw Simon Hoffrichter up against Graeme Smart, Simon didn't
Start off well loosing the first 3 holes before pegging one back on the 4th , Graeme then increased his lead to 4 by the end of the front nine and maintained that lead to Finnish 4 up with 3 to play, The next match was between Andrew Miller and Dion Hissey, Dion got away to an early lead and was able to maintain it and go on to win 6/5.  The third grouping was between Clinton Wearne and Ben Gascoyne,  Ben Who has been in good form Got the better of Clinton and finished up winning 5/4, The last pairing in the A grade was that of Jamie Davies and Peter Thompson, this match was a cliffhanger with Jamie getting the early break by going up 3, But Peter wasn't going away and tied things up by the end of the 16th, Peter then gained another point to lead by 1  leaving Jamie with no option but to go for it on the last, but it was to no avail as Jamie lost his drive Handing the match to Peter 2 up.
In The B Grade, the first rubber was between Barry Thompson and Mick Stewart, Mick had a day to forget handing Barry the match 10 up with 8 to play, The 2nd match was between Ken McCarthy and Mal Fricker, Ken obviously took his medication before the start as he also advanced to the next round with an impressive 6/5 win.   Next was Neville Betts and John Hill,
This was always going to be a tight tussle with Neville the more fancied player by the bookies But John was in red hot form scoring 47 stableford points the previous week, John carried on his good form to eventually get over the line 2/1.   The last match was between Gavin Haynes and Dean Uzzell, This was also a good match but Gavin gave himself some breathing space by chipping out not once but twice helping him to a 4/2 win.
Next week will see the winners from today playing off for a spot in the final starting as 12 noon sharp.
In the A Grade the first semi final match is between Graeme Smart and Peter Thompson ,
The second semi final is between Dion Hissey and Ben Gascoyne.
The B Grade 1st semi final is between Barry Thompson and Gavin Haynes, The second is between Ken McCarthy and John Hill. Good luck to all.
For the rest of the field a stableford competition will be conducted also starting at 12 noon.

31 July 2016 John Hill wins easily

Ceduna golfers contested a stableford competition in drizzling rain on Sunday. The fairways were in excellent condition thanks to Peter and Barry Thompson, but due to boggy and non stop moisture this winter, the mowers haven't been able to venture off the fairways and as a consequence the roughs are starting to have an impact on any wayward shots.

This however had little effect on John Hill as his ventures into the rough were rarer than rocking
Horse waste, John easily won the day with a brilliant 47 stableford points, next best with 39 points was Peter Thompson.   Other scores, Barry Thompson 35, Ben Gascoyne 37, Clinton Wearne 28, Graeme Smart 30, Gavin Haynes 34, Michael Knowles 31, Jamie Davies 37, Dean Uzzell 17, Mick Stewart 25.
Novelties, Long drive - Peter Thompson, Nearest to the pin holes 4 - John Hill, 17 -Jamie Davies.
Next Week is the Quarter finals of the club championships, tee off starts at 12 O'clock sharp, for the rest of the field their will be a par competition.
Finally , Congratulations and best wishes go to Jamie & Karinne Davies , Ben & Tegan Gascoyne on the recent safe arrival of their babies.

June 6, 2016   Habel wins Ceduna Open

ON Saturday, a 2 player ambrose was run, followed by an 18 hole championship on Sunday.
Both of which were proudly sponsored by the Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel.
Firstly to Saturday's ambrose, players were in for a treat because as a whole the course was arguably in as good a condition as it has ever been, this early in the season. Combined with awesome weather, good scoring was on the cards.
The winners were the combination of Jimmy Nicholls from Ceduna and John Flaherty from Streaky Bay with a score of 73 nett 60.5, no one was more supprised than Jimmy when he realised that he and his partner John had taken out the honours for the day.
The runners up were the local pairing of Ben Gascoyne & Michael Knowles not far back with a 66 nett 60.75.
Saturday novelties, long drives hole 9, Jamie Davies, 18, Graeme Smart, Nearest to pin, hole 4, Harry Verstappen.
Saturday then concluded with a barbecue tea, followed by players then residing around the fire to tell all their good and bad luck stories over a few to many ale's. This resulted in some of the visitors and locals wanting for more action, thus successfully scouting the town for more party opportunities .
After a good nights sleep (for some), all and a view more tuned up again to try their luck at the 18 hole championship in what turned out to be a lot nicer day then was forecasted. In the A Grade there was a tie for first place After 18 Holes between Jamie Davies of Ceduna and Jason Habel of Streaky Bay, both who carded a 73 off the stick, this resulted in both of them participating in a sudden death playoff with Jason coming out on top after the 1st extra hole, thus earning him the title of A grade Open Champion for 2016, congratulations must also go to Jamie in being crowned runner up, his best result so far at this level.
The B Grade also had a tie for the title meaning that they two had to endure an extra hole to decide who was to be crowned the B Grade Champion, This was contested between Barry Thompson of Ceduna and John Flaherty of Streaky Bay, both of which had 83 off the stick.
This time It was the local Barry who held on to win the title and John coming in second.
The C Grade was Baker Show with Justin coming in with the best score of 111 off the stick to clinch the C grade championship from brother Mick who finished up 2 shots back with a 113 off the stick. The handicap winners in each grade were as follows, A grade - Jamie Davies nett 62.
B Grade - Dean Uzzell nett 66 on a c/back from John Flaherty, C Grade - Justin Baker nett 82.

Also to Ceduna home scene who help us out every year in a big way, they also donated a 52 Inch curved screen tv and a bbq rotisserie spit to auction off which was happily won by Peter Thompson and Andrew Miller respectively.
Also a big thank you to other sponsors Ceduna food land and Villies Pies and Pasties for your generous support.
